Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Effective resource mobilization is essential for UNEP to deliver on its Medium-Term Strategy and Programme of Work and Budget.
Strengthening organizational coherence, improving partner engagement, and enhancing transparency on funding needs and opportunities are critical to maximizing impact. This position contributes to these priorities by supporting knowledge management, communication, coordination, and outreach related to UNEP’s funding and partnerships This position is located in UNEP’s Corporate Services Division, Resource Mobilization & Donor Relations (RMDR) Unit, in Nairobi duty station.
The incumbent will report to the Head of the RMDR Unit and work in close coordination with the Executive Office, the Communications Division, and relevant programme teams across UNEP. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Responsibilities
1. Knowledge Management for Resource Mobilization • Support the development, maintenance and strategic expansion of a UNEP Resource Mobilization Knowledge Hub for collecting, organizing, and disseminating information on: • UNEP’s funding landscape, funding partners, and partnership opportunities. • Practical tools, guidance, FAQs, best practices, case studies, and training materials related to resource mobilization. • Facilitate knowledge-sharing across divisions to enhance transparency, coherence, and alignment with UNEP’s resource mobilization strategy. • Support capacity-building initiatives, including developing training content, guidance notes, and presentations for staff.
• Support the articulation and continuous refinement of key institutional messages on UNEP’s value proposition, funding priorities, the Environment Fund, and strategic relevance to funding partners. 2. Coordination of global and Regional Funding Dialogue and related messaging • Support the planning, development, and implementation of global funding dialogues with Member States and partners, including preparation of concept notes, background materials, and follow-up documentation.
• Provides communications and outreach support and materials for resource mobilization engagement at regional ministerial for bilateral consultations, and high-level meetings. • Serve as focal point for coordination with designated regional offices to strengthen outreach to Member States and increase Environment Fund income and other flexible funding for the organization. • Coordinate unit’s engagement in funding-related outreach, campaigns, exhibitions, and visibility initiatives during high-level events, including the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) and related platforms.
3. Provision of content and support to UNEP’s corporate branding, value for money in close collaboration with Communications Division • Support strategic messaging on funding priorities, financial needs, and achievements. • Contribute to increased visibility and appreciation for funding partners, ensuring alignment with corporate branding guidelines. • Provide inputs to funding-related communication products, digital content, campaigns, and impact storytelling initiatives. • Support the development of guidance and content that highlights results delivered through partnerships.
• Confirm consistency, accuracy, and alignment of messaging across communication platforms and outreach materials. 4. Coordination and messaging for formal campaigns and meetings with Member States and UNEP Governing bodies. • Draft high quality written materials and standard messaging related to UNEP’s funding, including for formal correspondence, corporate reports and responses to funding partners in liaison with relevant offices. • Manage campaigns for formal communication on funding with regional offices including Member States contact lists and related follow-up queries.
• Prepare inputs for briefings and talking points for speeches on UNEP’s funding for senior leadership engagement with Member States and other partners, including governing body sessions and bilateral meetings. 5. Coordination of collaboration with the Executive Office • Serve as the unit’s focal point for liaison with the Executive Office to support outreach and alignment on resource mobilization. • Coordinate the preparation and flow of information, briefing materials, and strategic input required for senior level engagement with funding partners. 6. Supervisory Responsibilities
• Provide guidance and quality assurance to junior and temporary staff members to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance of communication outputs with unit standards and corporate guidelines.
7. Other Duties • Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
• Perform additional tasks as required to support effective programme delivery and resource mobilization operations.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree) in international relations, communications, or a related field is required. A first-level degree (bachelor’s degree) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years experience in programme management, resource mobilization, partnerships, knowledge management,communications, or related areas is required. Experience in knowledge sharing and applying knowledge management concepts into practice related to resource mobilization or engagement with partners is required. Proven experience in strategic communication, and engagement with funding partners is required.
Experience in drafting content for diverse audiences in the areas of strategic messaging, partner visibility content, digital communications, campaigns, and results/impact storytelling is required. Experience in coordinating outreach campaigns and stakeholder engagement is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required.
