Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) is established under Kenya Literature Bureau Act, Cap 209 of 1980 with the mandate to publish, print, and disseminate literary, educational, cultural, and scientific books and other materials. KLB is the leading publisher in East Africa and is home to some of the world’s top authors, researchers and experts in book publishing and printing. The Bureau is looking for highly competent; results oriented and dedicated individuals of high integrity to fill the following positions:
ASSISTANT LEGAL SERVICES MANAGER — KLB 4:
Job Ref HR –ALSM-1-2018
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. Provide legal advise to the Bureau and the Managing Director
ii. Provide secretarial services to the Board and manage the Board Annual Calendar;
iii. Facilitate in liaison with relevant departments or agencies, Board Evaluation, Board training, legal and governance audit;
iv. Keep custody of the Bureau’s seal, Board minutes and ensure they conform to statutory requirements;
v. Facilitate preparation and review of contracts, formal agreements and other legal instruments between the Bureau and other parties to protect the Bureau’s interest; and
vi. Interpret and advise on court rulings, legislation and regulatory circulars from stakeholders to ensure compliance.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
i. Bachelor’s Degree in Law (L.L.B.) or its equivalent.
ii. Master’s Degree in Law (L.L.M.) or Business Administration (M.B.A.).
iii. Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience with at least four (4) years at senior management/leadership position.
iv. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
v. Post Graduate Diploma in law.
vi. Knowledge of the Constitution of Kenya.
vii. Member of Law Society of Kenya (L.S.K.) in good standing.
viii. Valid Practicing Certificate.
ix. Problem solving, decision making, integrity, good communication, organisation and planning skills.
x. A good team player, maintains high work standards, reliable, easily adapts to new environments and self-motivate

Shortlisted candidates will be required to satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 including; Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations; Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board; Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority; Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission; and Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau.
