The Deputy University Librarian shall:

Help in providing custodial services to academic resources of the University;
Regularly review academic resources and submit reports to the University Librarian
Make proposals for development of library policies
Implement Library Policy
Assist in coordination of all the library services in the University
Assist in preparation of proposals for acquisition of library materials;
Manage the provision of conducive reading space for library users;
Assist in the establishment and facilitating the use of the e-Library;
Facilitate the networking and exchange of materials of with other libraries locally and internationally;
Promote provision of library support services;
Undertaking such other official assignments as may be assigned from time to time by the University Librarian or his/her authorized officer.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, one must have:-

A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences or its equivalent with 12 years working experience 3 of which as Senior Assistant Librarian Scale 13 or its equivalent.
Registered with relevant professional body.
ICT Competence.


The Officer shall hold office on permanent and pensionable terms in accordance with terms and conditions of service as approved by the Council from time to time.
